1. Who we are
Die Hawehuis (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a two-unit self-catering holiday rental in Stilbaai, Western Cape, South Africa. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and when you enquire about or book a stay, and how we use it, in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”).
2. What information we collect
This site has no online booking form or account system. We only collect personal information when you contact us directly — for example, by messaging us on WhatsApp, emailing us, or calling us to enquire about or book a stay. This typically includes your name, phone number and/or email address, and whatever booking details you share with us (dates, number of guests, special requests).
Our website host automatically records basic technical information common to all websites — such as IP address and browser type, via standard server logs — for security and technical maintenance purposes.
3. Cookies
This website does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. The interactive map on our Area Guide page only loads (and only then may set its own cookies, set by Google, not by us) if you actively click to open it. WordPress, the software this site runs on, may set a small number of strictly technical cookies needed for the site to function. If we ever add analytics or marketing tools that set additional cookies, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.
4. How we use your information
We use the information you give us only to respond to your enquiry, manage your booking, and communicate with you before, during and after your stay. We do not use it for marketing unless you separately ask us to keep you informed of availability or offers.
5. Sharing your information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not share it with third parties except where necessary to run our business (for example, our website host, WhatsApp/email as your chosen communication channel) or where required by law.
6. Storage and security
Booking correspondence is generally kept on WhatsApp and email, and we take reasonable steps to keep these accounts secure. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, but we do not use or store your information beyond what is reasonably needed to manage your booking and our related records.
7. How long we keep it
We keep booking correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary — generally for our own record-keeping and in case of a repeat booking — and will delete it sooner at your request, unless we are required to keep it for legal or tax purposes.
8. Your rights
Under POPIA, you may ask us at any time to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that is inaccurate or out of date;
- delete information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep; or
- object to how we’re using it.
To do any of this, contact us using the details below. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with South Africa’s Information Regulator at www.justice.gov.za/inforeg.
9. Children
This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian’s involvement.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we start using new tools on the site. The current version will always be posted on this page.
11. Contact us
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your information, contact Janneke at janneke@wispernet.co.za or on WhatsApp at +27 82 860 2381.
